With the advent of the Internet the publishing industry has streamlined with many major publishing houses merging or simply going out of business. (...)

Author: bizavings

With the advent of the Internet the publishing industry has streamlined with many major publishing houses merging or simply going out of business. In the cutthroat market of book publishing it sometimes seems to the layman that there is no place for the small printing presses anymore. This is simply untrue. The Internet has made it easier for the small presses to reach customers and create special niches. Below are the types of publishing houses, which seem to do the best.

1.Vanity presses: These types of presses charge the author money in order to be published usually in an anthology format. The Internet abounds with poetry vanity presses, which seem to publish just about anything for a price. This has led to a stigma associated with any type of publishing company that charges the author for the right to be published.

2.Pay per book presses: Many would say that this is just another way of saying vanity press. However, these types of presses don't actually pretend to enjoy or value a person's work. They merely publish a book for everyone that orders it. For many, publishers like Lulu are the only way to get their book to a desired market without spending a small fortune.

Comic book presses: Comic book presses are a dime a dozen and for every one that goes out of business another small comic book publishing company comes to take its place. For some reason people have a hard time taking comic books seriously. This may be due to the idea of a monthly format. Bookstores tend to stray away from selling comic books, but lines such as Borders Books have dabbled in the Graphic Novel format. There is a lot of room for growth in this sector, especially comic books published online.

Online presses: These types of presses distribute their content online. They generally are able to charge far less and still see a profit. However these types of presses too, often have a hard time being taken seriously by readers, who are often looking for something they can hold and take around with them. The potential for the growth of online presses is staggering though. As children grow up more and more surrounded by computers many will grow accustomed to reading from a computer.

Zine presses: This is probably the hardest type of small press from which to turn a profit. Zine presses are almost always labors of love and those who invest in them are nearly always more interested in entertainment for its own sake than for any financial gain. Many Zine presses gain cult followings when they are able to appeal to a special niche.

Collectible book presses: These presses specialize in quality hardcover books and often run reprints with appealing covers and such. Their books are considered collectible because of the high quality and low volume of their production. Sometimes these books can become quite valuable with time.

The World Needs More Small Publishing Companies
In the global market and over the Internet there is a demand for books that appeal to special niches. Large publishing companies usually look for books that appeal to a wide audience so small publishing companies are needed to fill in the gap and entertain the minorities of people who are unsatisfied with books geared toward a general audience.

For people there are many different forms of reading material. These reading materials can be thought of as non-fictional and fictional forms of reading matter. (...)

For people there are many different forms of reading material. These reading materials can be thought of as non-fictional and fictional forms of reading matter. In the fictional form comic books like Batman comics are a firm staple for people of different ages.

Batman was first introduced to the populace by Detective Comic in their book number 27. The character of Batman was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger. As the latest crime fighter Batman was a huge success. For this reason DC comics released the Batman comics as a separate comic book title in 1940. Since that period Batman comics have remained a favorite.

Batman brings a sense of realness to the fantasy world of super heroes. Many folks can relate, on some level, the the character that batman portrays.

While the Batman comics have earned this crime fighter a place in the chronological record of fiction superheroes there have been many occasions where the character of Batman has been changed or revamped to fit in with the current trends and ideas. An example of this can be seen during the early historic period of the Batman comics.

As with everything else there is an evolution of the original character. While batman remains true to his origin, the overall theme of his world has changed.

As many of the comics of during the 1939 to 1949 period were depicted as pulp fiction the Batman of that period was granted many of the traits for that time. To make the character more realistic Batman Comics showed Batman battle his enemies as a vigilante using only his combat skills, his strength and his intellect.

Different from the other superheroes Batman was not granted any super powers or special abilities. He was portrayed as a man who was driven to fight crime in his way but one who still respects the laws of his home city of Gotham. In many of the Batman comics Batman is shown as a silent and grim crime fighter who battles his enemies by himself.

The mystery of Batman strikes the human populations curiosity. Who is this man? Why does he fight crime? Where does his passion come from? These are the fundamental questions that often times keeps us coming back.

To make batman's character seem more human the creators of the series later added other characters to the Batman comics. For most of the history of Batman his sidekick Robin is shown fighting alongside of Batman.

Afterwards additions to the cast of the Batman comics are batgirl who is shown as Police Commissioner Gordon's daughter Barbara, and batwoman. The various villains who appear in the Batman comics are also well known. The names of the Penguin, the Riddler, catwoman and even the Joker are ones that we recognize.

While many changes have been brought to the mysterious man, Batman comics are still comics that are read by many people. The various Batman movies that many of us have seen are a testament to the popularity of this superhero and the ever growing host of Batman fans.

So, when you are reading the next Batman or watching the next movie ask yourself, What intrigues you about this super hero…

A comic book, or comics for short, is a magazine or book containing sequential art in the form of a narrative. (...)

A comic book, or comics for short, is a magazine or book containing sequential art in the form of a narrative. Since the formulation of the comic book format in the 1930s, young and old alike have enjoyed comics. However, the comic industry lost some of its popularity when it came down with a crash in the mid 1990s.

To promote its popularity once again the comic book industry is producing films based on the comic book stories. This method proved successful for few stories like Sin City, X-men and Spiderman but it failed miserably for other titles that flopped at the box office. So far this approach seems unable to rejuvenatethe comic book industry.

Research shows that the main cause of downfall of the comic industry is the removal of comic books from shops and stores. But this cannot be the sole cause since comic books are now easily available on the internet, in movies and animations.

Another question that comes to mind is why Japanese animation or "manga" is doing better then traditional comic books? The answer is simple. The Japanese write a better story line and their animated movies are made for a wider audience. Often, Japanesecomic books are framed as graphic novels containing 70 to 220 pages for a mature audience. The manga holds a more important place in Japanese culture, and is both well respected as an art form and also as a form of popular literature. On the other hand, comic books in Western countries are generally geared towards young teenagers rather than adults. This approach has made it tough for the Western comic industry to attain its dominant position.

Common misconceptions regarding comic books turning readers into out-of-touch delinquents have also hurt sale. Many parents fear that comics will brainwash children into believing that supermans and batmans actually exist in the world. For this reason, many parents forbid their children from readingcomic books as in their view they carry no ethical or moral values. These attitudes have contributed to the lack of interest in comics as well as its drop in publication.

The comic book price guide also sheds some light on why comics are no longer sold. The price guide reveals that the cost of comic books has soared up with the success of movies like Batman, Spiderman, and Superman etc. making it unaffordable to many. Plus when it comes to buying storybooks parents prefer to buy their children fables or novels that will help them build up their vocabulary and learn proper English.

But these parents fail to realize that without fantasy and imagination as found in comics, a child's creativity cannot develop. Comic books help break the monotony in children's lives and refresh these young minds to face the challenges of daily life.

No one ever became a worse reader by reading more. This is at least what my mom told me, and what I tell to my students. However, as any parent knows, it is often a struggle to get children to appreciate the joys of reading.

In todays fast paced information age, popular childrens book often become blockbuster movies. Free time is often spent playing videogames, surfing the internet and watching television. Trying to convince youngsters to pick up a book can become quite a daunting task, but there are some tips parents can use to increase the odds of their children enjoying the pastime of reading.

Broaden Your Horizons

While books are of course the preferred format, parents must remember that there are many different kinds of things their children may enjoy reading. Comic books tend to have loyal fans with their serialized storylines. Magazines Subscriptions make a great gift for kids as there are many different subjects and categories to choose from, and youngsters will like receiving their very own mail every month. For the student who likes current events reading the newspaper regularly may pique their interest.

Read With Your Kids

Not everyone has the time to read a bed time story, and as children age this is less likely to occur. Bed time stories are a great way to spend quality time with children, and as they age they can begin toread to you.

For older children, periodically read the same books or magazines concurrently. It will create the opportunity to show that there is an interest in what it is that they are doing, and create opportunities for stimulating conversation.

Visit the Bookstore/library

It is astounding at the sheer number of books in the library. Many book store chains have started to open up super sized stores. They are able to stock a wide variety of volumes for every interest imaginable. Spend a lazy afternoon perusing the aisles. Kids will enjoy the travel books, photography books featuring their favorite celebs or animals, and more. There is absolutely so much to see, you will wonder why you did not think of it sooner.

Though it is never too late to establish a love affair with the written word, the sooner you get your child reading the easier it will be. Do not expect Chaucer overnight but a more fluent and confident reader will likely seek out more challenging and lengthier tomes eventually. Remember to pay attention to your childs interest and your child will be imagining distant lands such as Narnia in no time at all.

We all love to watch comic book movies like X-Men, Daredevil and Spiderman they are movies for the whole family. So why do we love comic book movies and superheroes so much? (...)

We all love to watch comic book movies like X-Men, Daredevil and Spiderman they are movies for the whole family. So why do we love comic book movies and superheroes so much? Are we really interested in mutants and giant green men more than we are real people? The box office numbers would say that we are. Millions of dollars are spent each year to go to movies that star superheroes and comic book characters.

The technology to make these movies is increasingly easy to use. Some studios spend thousands of dollars to make their movies but it is possible to only spend a couple thousand dollars and make an animated movie. Superhero movies are not always animated some of the most popular movies are actually live action movies that star superheroes.

The amazing special effects that we see when watching a superhero movie keep us interested throughout the movie. Most of the current movies even have romances to help incorporate the female audience. Plus many of the superhero movies today are toning down the violence so they can earn a PG rating and gather younger fans.

Superheroes are the ideal that many people want to live up to. People like the idea of saving others and fighting against evil. The idealistic view of superheroes is something that we grow up with as children. At a very young age we start collecting superhero action figures and playing games pretending that we're superheroes.

The super strength of these characters is often a fantasy of many children. The idea of being invisible, invulnerable or being able to fly is something that many children wish they could do. In fact, many adults wish they could do that also. The superhuman powers that superheroes have are only one characteristic that bonds us to the ideals and fantasy of superheroes.

With every movie that is released the matching action figures are released also. So every child that sees the movie will then want to go purchase the matching action figure of its favorite movie star. So there is something much larger behind the comic book and superhero movies than just money. Children really love these stars they incorporate them into their daily fantasies, they even get Halloween costumes so they can look like their favorite superheroes.

Superhero comic books and movies are very popular and they do not look like they're going anywhere soon. Children and adults enjoy watching the superhero movies and comic book movies. These movies are becoming popular with pretty much the whole family. Whether you collect superhero figures or watch superhero movies superheroes are a part of most of our lives; a fantasy that we look to as an escape from our current realities.

Author: Xavier Gallery

Even with the emergence of popular entertainment outlets such as the internet and satellite television, comic books have maintained an impressive market share of consumer spending. There simply is no replacement for the unique way a comic can present a story and engage its readers. Because of this, comic book collecting has also grown in recent years with a new generation of readers enjoying this rewarding hobby.

For collectors who are just beginning, there are a couple of different approaches to take to the hobby. Some people are simply fans of a particular hero or publisher. They purchase comics for their own entertainment and don't concern themselves much with the after-market value of the publication. Other collectors concentrate on acquiring limited edition or rare comics for the sake of achieving a return on their investment. This form of collecting usually requires an advanced knowledge of the market as well as the necessary funds to make large purchases.

There are five distinct eras of comic book memorabilia. The Platinum Age represent the oldest time period, dating between the 1800's and 1937. The Golden Age covers the years of 1938 to 1955. Silver Age comic books are dated between 1956 and 1969, and the Bronze Age occurred between 1970 and 1979. The Modern Age includes everything that was produced from 1980 through today. Each time period is unique and distinctive in the way the publications were written, produced, and distributed. Obviously the older periods offer the most valuable items, but there are still plenty of rare and limited comics to be found in the Modern Age.

Today's collectors will find a multitude of outlets to help them add to their collection. The internet alone has increased the accessibility of hard-to-find comics to collectors all over the world. eBay, Craigslist, and online comic book stores make finding exactly what you want as simple as clicking a mouse. While these outlets are probably the most popular markets for collectors, there is still plenty of demand for local comic book shows and stores. Of course newsstands and bookstores remain the best source for the latest publications. Ideally, the savvy collector will be comfortable with using all of the outlets mentioned here. You simply never know where you might uncover the next hidden gem to add to your collection.

Beyond these basics of comic book collecting, there are other intricacies to learn for the new collector. For instance, collectable comic books are often graded to measure their condition in a uniform manner. This is done by a professional third-party company which will seal the comic in a protective sleeve to preserve its integrity. New collectors will need to become familiar with this process if they plan on investing in rare comics. Other essential tools include comic price guides and market sales reports which help to asses the value of a particular piece.

Collecting comic books has been an entertaining hobby for many decades, and it does not appear to be slowing down anytime soon. With the continued influx of new characters and publishers, there will always be a solid foundation of new adventures to satisfy the fans. Perhaps the best part about this hobby is that there is always something new to learn along the way. By joining the legion of comic collectors around the world, you are guaranteed to have a rewarding hobby for years to come.

Author: Conan Saunders

In a tough economy, we find ourselves looking to make a buck. We act like superheroes trying to fight this volatile economy. Well, why not look to the superheroes themselves? Comic books make for a great investment. They are lucrative and can be worth a lot of money. However, investing in comic books may not bring a big payoff right away. It can take fifteen to twenty years for a comic book to be valuable. Who would’ve thought that a childhood pastime would make you some money, and at the same time you get to have fun while purchasing comic books that bring some joy into your life.

Comic books are rising in value because of the increased popularity of them. Hollywood producers are making recognizable comic books heroes the stars of their movies. For people who are not familiar with the characters, they soon find themselves becoming more interested in them. Or people are reminded of characters they loved as a kid after seeing movies such as Ironman, Wonderwoman, and Superman. They are inspired to buy the comics after watching the movie.

Investing in comic books requires some work and dedication from the collector. They keep their value when they are in good condition and stored properly. There is also researched involved. How popular is the comic, what is the initial cost, what is the current value, how rare is the comic? You also have to decide what type of collector you want to be. There are different types of ways to be an investor for comics.

Investors simply care about the bottom line. They don’t have an emotional side attached with the comics and look to see how much money they can make from selling the comics. Another form of the investor is the person out to make some quick cash. This comic collector buys and sells in bulk tying to make fast money. Usually they are selling the most popular comics, not rarities. The EBay investor is closely related to the person trying to make some fast cash. They auction off their comic books on EBay. Usually they read the comics first and then sell them to get money back, but of course at a higher rate. Unlike the other investors they enjoy reading the comics and have some emotional attachment. Excitement not only comes from the comic but also the auctioning off of the book. Another type of investor simply looking at the bottom line is the inheritor. There is no sentimental value for the comics that were passed on to them. They want to get rid of the comics, but at the same time make a profit.

On the other hand, there are the emotional types of investors. To these types of people, there is sentimental value to the comics and they invest, trade, and purchase comics with value. The reader has the comics for their traditional purpose, reading. They don’t care about preserving the comic and enjoy the superheroes come to life as they read through the colorful pages of a comic. A step down from the reader is the part time reader. They enjoy comics but pick up and leave the hobby when it suits them. Last but not least, are the obsessive collectors. They dream, live, and breathe comic books. They categorize their comics, preserve the comics, and are the go-to guys for comic information.

Investing in comics has its rewards. Those rewards come in the form of money, joy, or excitement. Which collector are you and will you invest in comic books?
